VIAGGIO IN PROVENZA (A TRIP TO PROVENCE) Part 6

Quante volte l'ho pensato, spesso desiderandolo fortemente e pur rendendomi conto della stupidità di questo mio desiderio che, ovviamente, non può essere esaudito. Sono fatto così ed è la mia natura. È esattamente questo il paradossale motivo per cui quando viaggio (cosa che purtroppo ho fatto pochissimo negli ultimi 15 anni) non sono attratto dalla parte "concreta" del viaggio. Musei, mostre e tutto ciò che è umanamente costruito non costituiscono la mia priorità a parte alcune eccezioni e per motivi di cui non mi va di parlare. Prediligo senza dubbio l'esperienza della "perdita", come se avessi sempre il bisogno di allontanarmi da ciò che è considerato reale e che per me invece è vano. Adoro perdermi nella natura, ma nella maggior parte dei casi (ancora) mi capita di perdermi in zone urbane. Non è la stessa cosa, ma la mia anima gode ugualmente.

Così è stato durante il mio piccolo viaggio in moto in Provenza quando passando da Salon-de-Provence mi ci sono fermato per un paio d'ore.

Chiaramente sono sempre attratto dai centri storici, forse per il fatto che profumano di vita e, appunto, storia (non è un caso che io stesso abbia scelto di vivere in un centro storico, forse uno dei più stuprati d'Europa). Mi sono avventurato all'interno delle mura dell'antico borgo francese ed ho semplicemente passeggiato in religiosa solitudine, perdendomi tra le piccole strade lastricate di mattoni di pietra, semplicemente dissolvendomi. È così che mi piace pensarmi, come un'entità che perde i suoi connotati fisici riducendosi all'immateriale. Viaggiare, un certo tipo di viaggiare, serve proprio a ricordarmi della mia importanza pari a zero nel grande schema delle cose e quella sensazione mi è gradita. Quando sono nella realtà della vita quotidiana mi risulta difficile accettare la mia piccolezza rispetto alla disumana competitività che mi circonda e di cui ne ho piene le palle. Quando mi "dissolvo" nella natura o nei centri storici (che sono gli ambienti urbani più in sintonia con la natura) riesco a sentire e giustificare la mia microscopicità in relazione al tutto.

Anche Salon-de-Provence è stata una piacevolissima scoperta e man mano che il mio viaggio francese continuava, cresceva in me il desiderio che non finisse più. Così non è stato e non poteva essere per motivi tecnici (ho bisogno di una moto che sia più consona ai lunghi viaggi), ma la tentazione era fortissima. Spero di poter indulgere in questo mio desiderio la prossima volta che metterò un bagaglio consistente sulla mia (nuova) moto.

I'm like that and that's my nature. This is exactly the paradoxical reason why when I travel (which I unfortunately did very little in the last 15 years) I am not attracted to the "concrete" part of the journey. Museums, exhibitions and everything that is humanly constructed do not constitute my priority apart from a few exceptions and for reasons I do not feel like talking about. I undoubtedly prefer the experience of "loss", as if I always had the need to distance myself from what is considered real and which is vain for me. I love getting lost in nature, but in most cases (still) I get lost in urban areas. It's not the same thing, but my soul enjoys it anyway. So it was during my little motorcycle trip to Provence that I passed by Salon-de-Provence and stopped by for a couple of hours.

Clearly I am always attracted to historical old city centres, perhaps because they smell of life and, indeed, history (it is no coincidence that I myself chose to live in an old centre, perhaps one of the most raped and abandoned in Europe). I ventured inside the walls of the ancient French village and I simply walked in religious solitude, getting lost among the small streets paved with stone bricks, simply dissolving myself. This is how I like to think of me, as an entity that loses its physical connotations and reduces itself to the immaterial. Traveling, a certain type of traveling, serves precisely to remind me of my zero importance close to zero in the grand scheme of things and that makes me feel good . When I am in the reality of everyday life I find it hard to accept my smallness with respect to the inhuman competitiveness that surrounds me, which I've honestly had enough of. When I "dissolve" in nature or in historical centers (which indeed are urban environments more in tune with nature) I can feel and justify my microscopicity in relation to the whole existence.

Salon-de-Provence was also a very pleasant discovery and as my French journey continued, the desire to remain on the road kept growing. Yet I couldn't go on much longer (indeed I did not) for technical reasons (I need a bike that is more suited to long journeys), but the temptation was very strong. I hope to be able to indulge in this desire of mine the next time I put a substantial luggage on my (new) motorcycle.
